Morbid Outlook - Ask Witch Hazel - Ouija Board, Ouija Board

Dear Witch Hazel,
Recently, my Wiccan friend and I decided to take out her old ouija board and ask it some questions, something we had not done in over a year. Well, we took the board down from the closet, and immediately felt sick to our stomaches and a little queezy, but decided to press onward, as we had some important questions to ask.

Anyway, as soon as we set the piece on the board, a stream of cold air came up onto our palms, it was if something was blowing on them. The air in the room wasn’t cold exactly, just the piece. Immediately, before we even asked any questions, the piece jumped to attention and spelled out “evil”. Obviously, we stopped the session, but lately some odd things have been happening with the board – it dissapeared from her closet and i saw it sitting on my bed, and after I had regained my senses to call her, it had reappeared back in her room and was gone from mine.

I hope we’re both not simultaneously going insane, because this kind of thing has never happened to me before. I hope you can quell any doubts before we both really lose our minds from worry. Thank you so much! Love, Nyx

There are few factors that could be at play here. First, the two of you could have psyched each other out so much that your subconscious fears allowed you to experience what seemingly came across as a paranormal experience.

On another note, Ouija boards have been given a bad rap over the years and for the most part, they are nothing more than a tool to tap into one’s subconscious psychic ability. Like all tools though, if one isn’t prepared to work with it, less than positive results can occur. It isn’t the “tool” that is bad but the one working with it in an inappropriate manner.

However, in very rare cases, when both parties who are working with the board have a high degree of psychic energy and ability, there is a greater chance of calling some type of entity forth. Most of the entities that are floating around are not of the positive type, which means it is essential to do a salt circle and space blessing before working with the board. By doing so, you can eliminate the negative forces that are looking for an unwitting victim to play havoc with.

The fact that odd things such as cold atmosphere and disappearing items has occured sounds like a mischievous ghost was brought forth. Having had experience with them in the past, they like to take things and make them reappear days and sometimes years later in the most strangest of places. Before working with the board or anything of an “occult” nature, be sure that you are mentally and psychologically ready. Unseen forces and entites are not parlor games and unleashing something that belongs in the etheric realm can be problematic for the unitiated. Just because one has crossed over doesn’ imbue them with divine gifts of kindness.

It is essential to do a grounding and centering followed by a space blessing and salt water consecration of the working area. It may seem like a lot of trouble but it can avoid any type of negative energy from manifesting. Sometimes the negative energy is also that which is within the recesses of our own dark subconscious which feeds the energy enough to make things occur. When working with unseen energy, one must be in the best psychological frame of mind.

If the two of you fall within the confines of that rare occurance due to a high level of untapped psychic ability, it may be prudent to learn how to work with that first before venturing on to the next level of spirit communication.

If things are still going on, it will be essential to do a banishing ritual in order to secure your surroundings. Basically, once you open the gate, you have to close it or entities will continue to float around in an undeterred manner. A simple web search on “banishing rituals” should provide you with a primer on what to do in order to secure your environment a little better.
