Greetings from the 13th Floor
13th Floor Productions
13th Floor Productions is a team seeking to provide those with gothic, alternative and horror tastes greeting cards that reflect their interests and stylistic sensibilities and do it all for a reasonable price.
This company likes to mash artists and a writer together into a ball, throw it at a wall and see what the splatter looks like. Their janitors are paid very well, thankfully. While based in the New York City area, 13th Floor spans the country; only technically, however, with writer John B. in New York, an artist in the Midwest and another artist in California. They’re going to stick to that statement, though.
John B. has an English and Creative Writing degree and is happy to finally be using it for more than freelance writing and the endless quest that is fiction writing. As the writer for all of the cards and original concept creator for most of them, John has had lots of fun with this project, despite also having to handle all of the business and marketing side. He enjoys going into Hallmark and other card stores and reveling in the fact that his cards are cheaper and way cooler than the crap they have.
Jesse Larson is the illustrator based in the Midwest. He has illustrated children’s books and other projects but most importantly, he has drawn some awesome Edward Gorey-inspired cards for 13th Floor. He’s always available for illustration work and can be contacted through 13th Floor.
Jenn Rose is the artist based in Southern California; her specialty is make-up fx. She’s a graduate of Cal State-Fullerton. When not making monsters and other creatures for Hollywood, she dabbles in fine art, photography, and adventure. She’s obsessed with snakes, dresses like an explorer, has a huge crush on the Predator and really wishes dinosaurs weren’t extinct. As you can see, she draws a mean zombie. Check out her Makeup FX website and her Etsy store.
13th Floor wants to show that while greeting cards aren’t seen as typical goth, alternative or horror fare, that’s only so because no one has made greeting cards that appeal to people who enjoy these things. So far, the company is correct.
If you want to see the insides of the cards (and believe us, you do), check out the Myspace page or the store. More designs are coming, including life-events such as birthdays. 13th Floor is always looking for artists, photographers and models, as well as retail sales opportunities.
