Cryptically Surreal
Jason Beam
The nightmarish visions
that I create are best described as ...sensual goth, elegant horror and cryptically surreal (Pandora Magazine). The illustrative story-telling of classic macabre tales has etched this style into the minds of many. My work has been featured in numerous publications, such as Petersons PhotoGraphic, Dark Realms, Digital Imaging, Obskure, Ravenous, Rue-Morgue, Design News Week and the Big Book of Photography. My talents have been displayed at the Echo Gallery in Chicago, the Renaissance 2K Travelling Exhibition, the 2000 & 2001 Cannes Film Festival, and my lovely Joan of Arc piece is on permanent display at the Centre Jeanne DArc Museum in Orleans, France. He has recently been working on a body of work for his solo exhibition at the University of Great Falls, in his hometown for this September.
Pre-Raphaelite artists such as Sir Frank Dicksee, John Collier, Charles-August Mengin and John Waterhouse inspire and stimulate the the depth of emotion that I portrays in his artwork. Gustave Doré, Pablo Picasso and Bill Watterson (Calvin and Hobbes) provide me with philosophical and ethical influences.
